Woman cyclist accuses Indian coach of ‘inappropriate behavior’ during official camp


National cycling sprint team head coach RK Sharma has been accused of ‘inappropriate behavior’ by a female athlete while she was at a camp in Slovenia and has sent a complaint to the Sports Authority of India (SAI). The camp was a preparatory camp for the Asian Track Cycling Championships to be held in Delhi from June 18 to 22.

News.18com has learned that the coach was appointed on the recommendation of the Cycling Federation of India (CFI) and following the athlete’s complaint, the SAI has brought him back to India immediately to ensure his safety.

SAI has also constituted a committee to investigate the matter on priority basis. The Cycling Federation of India has also formed its own separate committee to investigate the allegations.

“We have received a complaint from ________ against Mr. RK Sharma, Head Coach (Sprint) of the Indian National Team, regarding inappropriate behavior during a training cum competition overseas performance tour in Slovenia. The camp will be held in Delhi from 18-22 June 2022. It was a preparatory camp for the Asian Track Cycling Championships.”

“The CFI stands with the complainant, ____ and has already called upon the Sports Authority of India and ____ to state that the decision of the committee constituted by SAI shall have the full support of the Federation on the decision,” the statement said.

“The Federation also formed a committee with the General Secretary – Mr. Maninder Pal Singh, Mr. SS Sudish Kumar – President Kerala Cycling, Ms. Deepali Nikam – Head Coach Maharashtra Cycling Team and Mr. VN Singh, Assistant Secretary, CFI, which met today. With and assured ____ full support during the time the SAI committee comes out with its findings and decision,” the statement added.

The CFI revealed that coach RK Sharma along with the rest of the players are returning to India on June 14.
