An arrest warrant for singer-dancer Sapna Choudhary was dropped on Monday, nearly a month after it was issued. The arrest warrant was issued in a case involving the cancellation of an event in 2018 and Sapna’s alleged failure to reimburse ticket buyers for their money.
According to a PTI report, Sapna was ordered to provide a personal bail in the amount of 20,000 by additional chief judicial magistrate Shantanu Tyagi. On August 22, Sapna failed to appear in court with her attorney, who then presented a motion to excuse her absence. She claimed that owing to an illness, neither she nor her attorney could have appeared in court on the prior date for the hearing. The court had issued an arrest warrant after she failed to show up for the hearing without giving any prior notice.
Sapna argued that the error was inadvertent in her application and urged the court to revoke the arrest warrant. The next hearing date was set for September 30 after the judge approved her submission, revoked the warrant, and withdrew it.
Sapna and the event’s organisers Junaid Ahmad, Naveen Sharma, Iwad Ali, Amit Pandey, and Ratnakar Upadhyay were named in a FIR filed on October 14, 2018. The Ashiyana police station in Lucknow received the complaint.
The Economic Offenses Wing of the Delhi Police filed a complaint against Sapna earlier in the previous year on suspicions of fraud and breach of trust. A complaint was made against Sapna, her mother, and her brother for criminal breach of trust, criminal conspiracy, cheating, and misuse of funds by the celebrity management organisation that was in charge of managing Sapna.
Sapna, a well-known singer and dancer in Haryana, gained national recognition when she made an appearance on Salman Khan’s reality series Bigg Boss in its eleventh season. Shilpa Shinde won the competition that year, with Arshi Khan and Vikas Gupta also taking part. In Bigg Boss 11, Hina Khan finished as the runner-up.
Additionally, Sapna has appeared in regional films including Veerey Ki Wedding and Nanu Ki Jaanu.
