Top series and movies to see this weekend include Jurassic World Dominion, Ms Marvel, and The Broken News

Gigantic creatures among us, or the girl next door transforming into a superhero? Filmmakers can be trusted to deliver entertaining content week after week. The wonder I had when I first saw dinosaurs wandering the earth in Jurassic Park remains with me to this day. As a cherished picture became a money-making franchise, the magic has gone a little, but with the return of the Jurassic OGs — Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill — I would give Jurassic World Dominion a try. For others, there’s Ms Marvel, which has a refreshing tone and mood, providing a welcome respite from the monotony of the MCU’s usual offerings. Kamala Khan as a South Asian superhero, complete with bangles and desi parents and desi rules? What happened to that remote?

Apart from dinos and girls in cape, here’s what’s coming to a town near you this weekend. Pick a weekend binge that you’ll like.

Jurassic World Dominion: Chris Pratt stars in Jurassic World Dominion, which is currently in theatres.
The film, directed by Colin Trevorrow, continues up where Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom left off, with dinosaurs escaping into the wild after being liberated. Along with Dern, Neill, and Goldblum, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard reprise their roles as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing, respectively, in the race to save the Earth. Shubhra Gupta, a film critic for the Indian Express, called the film “a stodgy, too-constructed affair.” “No effort has been spared in making this one’s canvas broader, but it doesn’t make the film necessarily better,” she noted in her two-star assessment of the film. We’re even reuniting with Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum, the original trio.”

Janhit Mein Jaari is now showing in theatres.

The social comedy, which stars Nushrratt Bharuccha in the lead role, is about a Madhya Pradesh teenager who starts selling condoms in her community. It follows her journey as she encounters difficulties as a result of social stigma surrounding condom use. “The film employs humour well enough up to a point, to make its point – that it’s no sin to talk up protection during sex,” Shubhra Gupta wrote in her review, giving the film 2.5 stars.

ZEE5’s Breaking News

The Broken News, a ZEE5 show, reintroduces Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre to the screen. It’s an official remake of the popular British television series Press. It stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Shriya Pilgaonkar, and Indraneil Sengupta, among others, and is directed by Vinay Waikul. The show, according to Shubhra Gupta, is “more of a criminal thriller than a cautionary tale.” “Just in case the web series is regarded ‘too genuine,’ a slew of highly-dramatized components are crammed in, keeping the series from slipping into filmi zone,” she wrote.

Disney Plus Hotstar’s Ms Marvel

Ms Marvel is a South Asian superhero ensemble film that recounts the story of Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), a Pakistani-American teen who discovers herself while living a seemingly regular life in the United States. Ms Marvel is the seventh Disney+ MCU series, directed by Bisha K Ali and starring Farhan Akhtar, Fawad Khan, Mehwish Hayat, Alyy Khan, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, and Saagar Shaikh. The series has done “a great job mixing the superhero sensibilities of MCU narrative with a charming and enjoyable coming-of-age story of a little girl learning her place in the universe,” according to It’s a narrative that’s been told before, but never quite like this.”

Netflix’s hustle

Hustle is a Netflix film starring Adam Sandler as an American basketball scout who, after being dismissed, uncovers a brilliant player abroad and resolves to bring him to the United States to prove that they both have what it takes to make it in the NBA. According to Rohan Naahar of, the film is a “good sports drama.” “Adam Sandler confirms, once and for all, that everyone would be considerably better off if he would stop making the kind of rubbish that he’s normally associated with and change attention to more dramatic movies,” he wrote in his 4-star assessment.

777 Charlie is now playing in theatres.

Looking for something to watch that will take your mind off the stresses of everyday life? 777 Charlie is a nice option. The story centres around a man’s relationship with his beloved dog. “Amid larger-than-life, violence-prone films we have seen this year, this Rakshit Shetty-starrer gives a gentler experience of self-reflection about the folly of life,” Manoj Kumar R of noted in his review of the film.
