These Expert-Backed Tips Can Help You Avoid Stomach Ailments This Summer

While we are all aware that extreme heat during the summer can harm our skin and hair, we are rarely told that it can also be harmful to our stomachs. We’ve all heard how important it is to stay hydrated. Apart from that, during the searing heat, constipation, food poisoning, and indigestion have become all too prevalent. Dr. R.C Soni has spoken out about the negative effects of extreme heat on the digestive system. Not only that, but the specialist also offered some advice on how to avoid stomach problems over the summer.

“As the temperature rises, summer invites various associated problems like dehydration, indigestion, heartburn, constipation, acidity gastroenteritis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), diarrhoea, food poisoning, and loss of appetite,” Dr. Soni was cited as adding. She went on to say that too much heat slows down and weakens the digestive system.

The specialist explained that blazing heat affects our immunity and digestive system, which leads to stomach problems. The doctor offered a few suggestions for avoiding stomach sickness this summer.

Eat a healthy diet.

In each season, eating large meals has its own set of disadvantages. As a result, in order to break this habit, the expert advised everyone to eat light, home-cooked meals.

Enhance your digestion

The digestion process will be aided by eating 6-8 small meals at regular intervals. Not only that, but the health expert also advised that heavy and oily meals be avoided because they slow down the digestion process.

Consume fresh fruits and veggies.

While fruits and vegetables with a high water content are beneficial during the summer, the doctor advises consuming those that are stomach-friendly and aid in the digestion process. Dr. Soni went on to recommend tomatoes, cucumber, apples, pears, watermelon, and muskmelons as some of the stomach-friendly fruits and vegetables to include in your diet.

Coconut water should be consumed.

Staying hydrated is not a new concept, but we are rarely told that we must incorporate coconut water in our diet on a regular basis during the summer. This is because coconut water helps to lower heat and neutralise acid levels in the stomach.

Exercise on a daily basis

Last but not least, we must make it a habit to exercise on a regular basis. Exercising on a daily basis is essential for improving our digestion and general health.
