The makers of Ms Marvel offer Farhan Akhtar’s first glimpse as a philosopher: ‘What you want is seeking you’

Ms Marvel, Marvel Studios’ latest web series, debuted the first glimpse of Bollywood actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar on Wednesday. Farhan appears to be portraying a mystic role in the trailer, and based on his appearance, he is a philosopher or mentor to Kamala Khan’s superhero. “What you’re looking for is looking for you,” he says.

Ms Marvel debuted today on Disney+. The programme also features a desi cast, which includes Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, much to the delight of its Asian and Indian fans.

On Tuesday, Farhan expressed his gratitude to the cast and crew for their “intentional inclusivity,” with a specific mention for Iman Vellani, who plays the titular character. “The concert is a celebration of diversity,” Farhan wrote, “and it will undoubtedly offer delight and pride of self-identity to millions of young girls and boys across the subcontinent.”

Iman Vellani, like her character Kamala, talks about her love for Bollywood in another video. While she claimed it was amazing to spend screen time with Farhan after growing up watching his films, she chose Aamir Khan as her favourite Indian actor. “Farhan has a plethora of tales to tell. Iman remarked in the video, “He looks so fantastic in our show, it’s crazy that I’ve grown up admiring him and now I’m working with him.”

Ms Marvel, billed as the first South Asian superhero ensemble film, follows Kamala Khan, a Pakistani-American teen. It follows a teen’s journey of self-discovery as she realises her true worth while living a seemingly average existence in the United States.

Mohan Kapur, Zenobia Shroff, Sagar Shaikh, and Nimra Bucha are among the South Asian performers who appear in Ms Marvel. “When we heard that Fawad and Farhan were doing it (the programme), we were really happy,” Mohan Kapur told Hindustan Times about Farhan and Fawad being a part of it. Imagine how popular the show will become in South Asia and around the world, as they have admirers from all around. It’s a big deal. It’s insignificant if you consider, “I’m in more episodes, so why are they talking about them?” That is a very minor point of view. When asked about Farhan and Fawad’s responsibilities, Mohan responded, “They propped us up.” ”
