The BJP on Friday formed a 14-member committee, led by Union minister Gajendra Shekhawat, to coordinate with its state units and partners for the July 18 presidential election.
Ministers G Kishan Reddy, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Sarbananda Sonowal, Arjun Meghwal, and Bharati Pawar make up the “management team,” which is supposed to ensure a smooth election process and success for the party’s nominee.
The BJP had already dispatched party president J P Nadda and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to meet with opposition parties to see if a consensus candidate could be found.
According to sources, the management team will coordinate with the BJP’s state units and allies for the presidential election, as well as guide its elected voting representatives through the voting process.
The team’s co-conveners are BJP general secretaries Vinod Tawde and C T Ravi. According to a notice released by the party, Tarun Chugh, the general secretary, is also a member of the team.
D K Aruna, national vice-president of the BJP, national secretary Rituraj Sinha, national president of the women’s wing Vanati Srinivasan, national spokesperson Sambit Patra, and vice-president of the Assam unit Rajdeep Roy are the other members.
