Akshay Kumar starrer Samrat Prithviraj is getting tough competition from Kamal Haasan’s Vikram at the box office. Directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi, the film released on 3rd June, which received mixed response from both the audience and critics. It collected Rs 39 crore on the opening weekend. However, Emperor Prithviraj saw a major drop in its collection on his first Monday.
According to a Pinkvilla report, Samrat Prithviraj earned between Rs 4.85 crore and Rs 5.15 crore on Monday. The entertainment portal also claims that with such a drop on its first Monday, the Akshay Kumar starrer is likely to reach Rs 60 crore as its first week collections. Samrat Prithviraj had earlier earned Rs 10.70 crore, Rs 12.60 crore and Rs 16.10 crore respectively on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Samrat Prithviraj also stars Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood in lead roles. This is the Bollywood debut of Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar. In the film, Akshay is seen playing the role of the warrior king Prithviraj, while Manushi is seen essaying the role of his girlfriend, Sanyukta. The film was declared tax-free in some states including Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
Meanwhile, the reign of Vikram continues to dominate the box office collections. According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, Vikram is doing well not only in India but all over the world. The film has crossed the Rs 150 crore mark in just three days. It is doing very well in the southern states as well. While Vikram emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil film of the pandemic era in Kerala, it also became the third Tamil film to cross the Rs 10 crore mark in Karnataka in 2022.
