Presidential Polls: SBSP praises BSP, gives SP a 24-hour deadline

Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) President Om Prakash Rajbhar on Monday gave SP chief Akhilesh Yadav a 24-hour deadline for his MLAs’ support in the presidential elections, claiming that his party is still in alliance with the Samajwadi Party (SP). Rajbhar said Yadav must explain the need for SBSP MLAs’ votes.

Rajbhar also lauded the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and would not rule out future alliances with the group.

SBSP is with SP, and we will vote with SP, according to Rajbhar, who has convened a meeting of the party’s MLAs for Tuesday in Ballia to decide on the presidential elections.

(If Akhilesh requests it) ab wo kahen tab naa

Rajbhar claimed that the problems with the SP started after he was “not invited” to a meeting with opposition presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha that Akhilesh Yadav hosted in Lucknow. “Only there is where the issue is. We’re waiting for Akhilesh to say whether or not he needs our support. We’ll hold off till Tuesday night,” he remarked.

Six SBSP lawmakers are members of the Assembly.

He claimed that for the previous few days, he and Akhilesh have not spoken to each other. “I have requested SP leader Udaiveer Singh to clarify Akhilesh’s position by July 12 in a mail I sent to him. The SBSP will be allowed to choose how it will vote in the presidential election if he doesn’t react by tomorrow, Rajbhar added.

“Everything is fine on our end… Regarding his party’s alliance with the SP, he remarked, “Akhilesh has to say if he needs us or not.

Notably, while Droupadi Murmu was in Lucknow, Rajbhar attended a luncheon hosted by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in her honour. However, he added, “I told her (Murmu) that SBSP will decide on the Presidential elections after consulting with MLAs.

Rajbhar asserted that the BSP was not a weak party because it received a sizable number of votes in each assembly district and that neither Akhilesh nor BSP leader Mayawati could advance in politics without the help of Rajbhars.

When asked if his support for the BSP suggests a potential partnership, Rajbhar responded, “Why not? If the BJP can work with Mehbooba Mufti of the PDP and the two bitter foes SP and BSP can cooperate (in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections), then Never has BSP impacted SBSP. Politics constantly offers opportunities.
