On the second anniversary of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, all of the significant protagonists, from Rhea Chakraborty to Siddharth Pithani, discussed where they are now

Sushant Singh Rajput, who died in 2020 at the age of 34, will be remembered on June 14th for the second time. His death was initially considered a suicide when he was discovered hanging in his Mumbai flat bedroom.

However, a political turf battle and public outcry prompted the CBI to initiate an inquiry into the case, which is still ongoing. Sushant’s death, which occurred during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, has frequently been highlighted as an example of how badly news reporting may be done in the country. Nightly debates on primetime news would be held while interest was at its height. Sushant’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and her brother, Showik, were arrested during a drugs-related probe. Following her involvement in court procedures against Sushant’s family, Rhea was probed for misappropriation of funds.

But it was the dialogue about mental health that Sushant’s death didn’t properly start. The actor was reportedly seeking bipolar disorder treatment and was on and off medication. Here’s a look at the primary participants in the case two years later, and what they’re up to now.

Rhea Chakraborty is an Indian actress.

Before being released on bail, the actor spent over a month in jail. She slowly began re-emerging in public after initially finding herself at the centre of a media circus. She’d be photographed by photographers and attend industry events. However, her absence from early promotional material for her current picture, Chehre, caused considerable controversy. She later attended the wedding of Farhan Akhtar and Shibani Dandekar earlier this year. After being granted permission by the court to attend the IIFA awards in Abu Dhabi, it was recently reported that she had decided not to go.

Chakraborty, Showik

The CBI detained Rhea’s brother as well, and he was granted bail after she was. His Instagram profile photo is still of him and Sushant, and his most recent Sushant-related post was on the one-year anniversary of the actor’s death. Since then, he’s updated his Instagram profile with travel and family photos.

Pithani, Siddharth

Siddharth Pithani, a member of Sushant’s inner circle, was the one who discovered Sushant’s body. In the aftermath of the incident, he featured on various TV news programmes and was arrested by the NCB for the drugs-related aspect of the case. He still hasn’t been given bail as of May 2022. “We requested bail in January,” his lawyer Taraq Sayyed told ETimes last month, “but the hearing has yet to take place in court.” He was given permission to attend his wedding in 2021, and a fortnight later surrendered himself.

Haokip Samuel

Samuel Haokip, a lawyer who was personally recruited by Sushant to join his ‘pro squad,’ was living with the actor at the time of his death. In the aftermath of the tragedy, he, like Siddharth Pithani, gave media interviews and told stories about Rhea and Sushant on national television. He also married last year, much like Siddharth.

Kirti Shweta Singh

Shweta Singh Kirti, who lives in the United States, was perhaps the most outspoken of Sushant’s three sisters on social media, posting daily updates about him on Instagram and Twitter. She was the driving force behind the ‘Justice for Sushant Singh Rajput’ social media craze that erupted just weeks after his death. However, it appears that her most recent Sushant-related Instagram post was made on his birth anniversary in January of this year.

Kirti Vishal

Vishal Kirti, Shweta’s spouse, would write comprehensive blog pieces on the late actor in the weeks following his death. Personal images and other tidbits about the actor are usually included in these posts. He attacked Rhea’s remarks about Sushant’s family in his posts, and questioned the ethics and results of the therapist who stated Sushant was bipolar. His social media profiles, however, are now dominated by work-related content. One day before Sushant’s first death anniversary in 2021, he wrote his final blog entry on him. All of Sushant’s entries appear to be password-protected, although his writings on other topics, such as the Afghanistan war and psychology, appear to be public.

Priyanka Singh is a Bollywood actress.

Rhea had filed a FIR accusing Priyanka of aiding Sushant’s suicide by obtaining drugs for him using a ‘fake prescription.’ The FIR named both Priyanka and Sushant’s other sister, Meetu. While the case against Meetu was overturned after the two sisters filed a request to dismiss it last year, the Bombay High Court established prima facie evidence against Priyanka. In a social media post earlier this year, she stated that no biopic on her brother should be done until he receives ‘justice.’ She frequently tweets about Sushant, and she and Meetu just attended a prayer ritual for him.

Meetu Singh is a writer who lives in India.

Meetu, like Priyanka, pleaded for ‘justice’ for her late brother in her most recent social media post, which she published on his birthday earlier this year. “Wherever you are in divine abode, my jaan, I wish you every happiness and peace.” You lived as if you were a king. My pride is in you. It’s only ki tum chale gaye, and you’ve taken away all of my power. “God bless you,” she added, attaching screenshots of her thank-you tweets to Sushant’s admirers. She wrote in one of those tweets that her physical and emotional health had’significantly deteriorated,’ and that she was ‘irritated’ that people seemed to have moved on. She declared that she would never give up on her sibling. In April, Priyanka and Meetu joined forces for a Sushant puja service.
