“For quite some time, green tea has topped the list of magical weight loss meals and beverages. Green tea has become so popular that it is offered whenever the word ‘diet’ is spoken,” according to nutritionist Dr. Indu’s Instagram post on KHW.
But can a cup of green tea, which is high in antioxidants, truly help you lose weight?
Here’s what the expert had to say about the weight-loss benefits of green tea.
“Antioxidants are abundant in green tea. “However, it contains no proven weight loss or fat loss components,” she explained.
Green tea, which is manufactured from the camellia sinensis plant, derives its name from the emerald green colour it achieves when brewing uncooked, unfermented leaves for the uninitiated.
Green tea has been shown in numerous studies to help people lose weight if they are persistent with their workouts, and Dr. Indu concurred.
“Because you’re drinking a warm liquid, it may contribute indirectly (to weight loss).” However, if you’re going to put a lot of honey in your green tea, reconsider. She replied, “You might actually gain weight.”
So, what should one remember when drinking green tea? Because of the caffeine level in green tea, over consumption may create negative effects; therefore, moderation is the key.
