Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan square off in a gory thriller in the teaser for Vikram Vedha

On Thursday, the long-awaited trailer for Vikram Vedha, the epic action movie starring Saif Ali Khan and Hrithik Roshan, was finally unveiled. The teaser teases a nearly faithful copy of the 2017 Tamil hit, with gory action scenes, epic one-liners, thrilling combat scenes, and dramatic cat-and-mouse chase sequences. Overall, it has the word “mass” in bold.

The nearly three-minute teaser begins with a voice-over explaining that everything has two sides while showing a scene of Saif and Hrithik arguing. In the background, the well-known score from the Tamil original may be heard. The opening scene of the teaser shows Hrithik in the role of the merciless criminal Vedha beating up several men by himself in a very impressive manner. He does it with the same swagger and a little blood as when he leaps over buildings and breaks people’s legs.

Thankfully, Saif Ali Khan, who portrays the sincere-appearing cop Vikram and professes to be one of the “good guys” in the teaser, receives nearly equal screen time. He enters the scene, kicking open doors and pursuing crooks before returning to curiously kicking more doors. The plot, however, takes an exciting turn when Vikram and Vedha eventually meet. Vikram is left with questions about what is good and wrong after meeting Vedha. It brings back memories of the chemistry between Vijay and Madhavan in the original but falls flat in a few situations.

Even with just two lines, the creators manage to highlight Radhika Apte’s magic among all the grey characters. She assumes the roles of Vedha’s attorney and Vikram’s wife. While Hrithik Roshan’s appearance in Vikram Vedha has already made headlines, his accent from the film might cause some people to think of Super 30 and his Bihari-influenced tongue.

The makers planned a special preview screening of the trailer for fan groups on Wednesday across the nation in advance of its release. A new poster featuring Hrithik and Saif was also launched the day before this. In it, Hrithik could be seen partially resting on an iron log while holding a gun. Saif, on the other hand, was seen shooting his gun.

Vikram Vedha, which was directed by Pushkar-Gayatri, also prominently features Yogita Bihani, Sharib Hashmi, and Rohit Saraf. The movie is a translation of the same-titled 2017 Tamil film, which also starred Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi and was made by Pushkar and Gayatri. The movie, like the original, is loosely based on the well-known folktale- The movie will be released worldwide on September 30, 2022, and is supported by YNOT Studios, Friday Filmworks, Bhushan Kumar under T-Series Films, and Reliance Entertainment.
