There are several South Asian connections in the new Disney Plus series Ms. Marvel, including references to Riz Ahmed’s band Swet Shop Boys and Kamala Khan’s favourite Shah Rukh Khan movie. It appears like there are enough references to please the South Asian viewers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
And now, in a fresh preview for today’s episode, Kamala Khan can be seen dancing her heart out to the upbeat Punjabi Bollywood song “Dil Bole Hadippa” from the Shahid Kapoor-Rani Mukerji film of the same name while donning the conventional salwar suit for her sibling’s wedding.
Even Kamala’s American companion can be seen dancing along with her in the aforementioned video as the crowd cheers them on.
However, some viewers have conflicting opinions on the inclusion of this peppy song in the programme. One fan asked, “So this aids to the plot in what way? I hope this sequence is cut and this is kept as a dull extra. “This is the worst Marvel series yet, just cringe awful to watch,” one person commented. It is comparable to watching the Disney or Nickelodeon Kids Channel. The clip, however, made a few people delighted, as one of them said, “Finally, some representation!” You can obviously see that this is at the wedding, and they have been talking about the wedding for the past two episodes, according to a user who justified the maker’s decision.
Ms. Marvel, created by Bisha K. Ali and featuring rookie Iman Vellani in the title role, has been getting generally favourable reviews from critics. On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, it currently has an impressive 96% critics rating and an audience rating of 83%.
