PUNJAB: After his return from London, where he is recovering from spinal surgery, Capt. Amarinder Singh, the former chief minister of Punjab, is anticipated to merge his party, the Punjab Lok Congress, with the BJP.
Harjit Singh Grewal, a well-known Punjab BJP politician, claimed on Saturday that a decision in this respect has been made even though the party has not yet made a statement.
Grewal claimed that before departing for London, Singh told the BJP of his intention to merge his party with the BJP and that the former chief minister will make the announcement upon his return.
After abruptly resigning as chief minister last year, Singh, a two-term chief minister and member of the former Patiala Royal dynasty, registered the PLC and left the Congress.
The PLC ran candidates for the state assembly in 2022 in a coalition with the BJP and the Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa-led Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyuk).
Nevertheless, none of the PLC candidates were elected, and Amarinder finished last for the Patiala Urban seat, which is where he is from.
