Ayurveda advises against eating these five meals at dinner


Dinner is the most important meal of the day because it is the last meal of the day. While it is recommended that you keep it light and nutritious, according to Ayurveda, there are several foods that should be avoided for dinner.

“Dinner is a time for family gatherings, parties, and social interaction. But, more than any other meal, dinner is the one about which you must be serious and cautious,” Ayurvedic expert Dr. Rekha Radhamony wrote on Instagram, listing specific things that should not be consumed at night.

Wheat should be avoided for dinner, according to the expert, because it is “heavy (guru) and takes a long time to digest, which might lead to ama (toxicity).”


The majority of individuals eat their meals with a bowl of curd in it. When eaten for dinner, however, it is not healthful. “It raises kapha and pitta,” explained Dr. Radhamony.

Flour that has been refined

Refined flour, like wheat, is heavy and “very difficult to digest.”

Chocolates and desserts

Stop concluding your meals with desserts if you have a bad habit of doing so. “Foods with a mostly sweet flavour are guru (heavy), difficult to digest, and cause mucus to build up,” the Ayurvedic expert explained.

Salads that are served raw

Salads are beneficial to one’s health, but raw salads, in particular, “are chilly and dry, increasing vata by a factor of ten.” Cooked or sautéed with healthy fats is a better option.

“Our digestive fire (agni) is at its lowest in the night,” she explained, explaining why these meals should be avoided at supper. Toxins can build up in the body if food isn’t digested.”

“This is known as ama, and it is the long-term cause of weight gain, obesity, diabetes, skin illnesses, digestive problems, hormone imbalances, and so on.”
